KU HONORS OUTSTANDING THEATRE AND FILM STUDENTS

LAWRENCE - Outstanding theatre and film students at the University of Kansas were honored Sunday, April 27, during the annual Stage and Screen Brunch, sponsored by the Department of Theatre and Film and the University Theatre.

The brunch, which paid special tribute to graduating seniors, was the closing event of the "Alums Come Home III" celebration at KU.

Two special awards were announced during the 1997 festivities. Gigi Gibson Bolt, a 1965 KU alumna and now an arts administrator at the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C., received the Alumni Honor Citation for making "continued significant contributions in the field of arts advocacy."

Kenyon and Camilla Whitright, owners of Wybron Inc., Colorado Springs, Colo., received the department's Award of Merit for donating 20 lighting color scrollers and associated control equipment to the University Theatre. The gift increases the technical and design capabilities of the theatre and allows students to stay abreast of lighting technology.

Laura Zabel, Manhattan senior, was named the 1997 Kilty Kane recipient. The award, the department's highest, annually recognizes the person leaving the theatre program who has contributed the most to it.

In addition to the award presentations, scholarship recipients for the 1997-98 academic year were announced.
