OUTSTANDING THEATRE AND FILM STUDENTS HONORED AT KU
LAWRENCE - Outstanding students in theatre and film at the University of Kansas were
honored Tuesday, May 7, during the Stage and Screen Supper on the Crafton-Preyer Theatre
stage in Murphy Hall.
Presiding at the annual awards banquet were John L. Gronbeck-Tedesco, chair of the
Department of Theatre and Film, and Delbert L. Unruh, director of the University Theatre.
Highlighting the ceremony was the awarding of the Kilty Kane, the University Theatre's
highest honor. Recipients were Erin Kessler, 424 S. Rose, Palatine, Ill., and Aleksandr C.
Kipp, 3208 W. 24th Terrace, Lawrence, both graduating seniors. The Kilty Kane goes to the
person or people leaving the KU theatre program who have contributed most to its success.
James Still, a 1982 KU theatre graduate, received the Alumni Honor Citation in
recognition for his accomplishments in playwriting. Still, a Pomona native, is the author
of "Hush: An Interview with America," to be staged by the KU Theatre for Young
People this fall.
The 1996 Award of Merit was presented to
Del Shankel, retiring professor of microbiology and KU chancellor emeritus, and
posthumously to Jonell Williams, long-time donor to KU, who died in February 1996.
